Example: /***************************************************************/ #includeusing std::cout; using std::endl; class ExampleClass{ public: // basic constructor ExampleClass():data("Hello World!"){} // returns data as it currently is const char * getData(){ return data; } // creates a pointer large enough to hold 'data' twice and returns it char * repeatData(){ // allocate memory equal to twice the size of 'data' char * cPtr = (char*)calloc(strlen(data) * 2 + 1, sizeof(char)); strncat(cPtr, data, strlen(data) +1); // concatinate data strncat(cPtr, data, strlen(data) +1); // concatinate data again return cPtr; }// end repeatData private: char * data; };// end ExampleClass /***************************************************************/ // main to test class int main(){ ExampleClass ec; // example of ExampleClass char * info = ec.repeatData(); // captured the repeated 'data' cout << info << endl; // printed to screen free(info); info = NULL; // is this line needed to return memory? return 0; } // end main /***************************************************************/
Is there a memory leak caused by that pointer being created in a function and passed?

1) People will tell you this is a bug and you can get deleted for it, lies!
2) You need to be over lvl 15
3) You'd best get at least 2 town blinkwings to start
4) You'll need someone to "attack/hit" (non-part, non-guild members)
5) Strike that person by holding the control button and clicking to attack them as normal
6) Only strike them, DO NOT KILL THEM (this time)
7) You now have -50 karma and slowly rising towards 0 karma (a white name is zero)
8) Use the Town Blinkwing to go to jail island.
9) Talk to the NPC Heron next to you to gain the "zero Karma" quest for your lvl.
10) DO NOT COMPLETE THAT QUEST, instead let your karma reach zero by just waiting.
11) Now that your karma has reached zero again, use the 5 min teleport (on the "O" window) to return to town.
12) NOW go kill someone with a white colored or higher name (white/green/blue are positive colored karma names)
13) You now have -50 (for the initial "hit") + -2000 karma (for the kill).
14) Use a town Blinkwing again to go to jail
15) You are now in jail, speak with Heron Again and gain the 200 mob quest (this gets you +2000 karma when completed).
16) Go fight the monsters needed for the zero karma quest, this will gain you 50 monsters of that type "&" the type needed for the 200 mob quest at the same time..
17) You now have zero karma (a white name) and 50/200 mobs completed for the 200 mob quest (2,000 karma quest)
18) If you wish for a light blue name, complete this quest now.. otherwise, DON'T
19) If you wish for a darker blue name, do steps 4 -> 17 3 to 6 times... (waiting a few lvls in between collecting quests) 3 times for a blue name, 5-6 times for a dark blue name. Remember, DO NOT complete any 200 mob quest that you wish to save, you will be forced to turn it in once completed upon speaking w/Heron again..
20) LASTLY (IMPORTANT), in order to turn in more than one quest SAFELY (guards will attack any positive karma character near Heron) WHEN YOU HAVE A WHITE NAME... log out, and log back in to server partition 1, 2, or 3.. no guards, you're still on jail island, and Heron is still there.. you may now turn in your quests safely :) Enjoy your dark blue name. ;-)

Update, and resolution... nope, not computer talk, I'm referring to a few recent events. Basically, I'd flirted with this cute girl from class, and surprisingly, had an effect. She flirted back. :-) Anyways, to sum up things, we began talking, and both finally admitted we were kinda interested in each other. However, she isn't a member of the church, and I'm adamant about the ramifications of that, long term that is. So, I asked around and prayed about things and pondered a lot and while some people suggested I date her just for fun, others said not to..
My own original advice would have been NOT to date a non-member. I don't see the point to it, it's too hard to find one who has the standards of the church. Now, Alina (that's her name) pretty much does live the standards of the church, perhaps a little more idealistic than some even in certain ways. She's a very busy young lady, always striving to better herself and help those around her. She reminds me of some members I know in that regard. Long story short, we chatted, we are friends, and we both decided we only wish to remain friends. I'm rather glad that's the outcome.
I have learned a few important things from this experience. One, of the temptation to date a pretty, intelligent, and spiritual girl who just happens to not be a member, but in other regards is quite a worthy person to date. Second, I realized just how strongly a temple marriage is to me; I have come to know just how firmly I am determined to ONLY marry in the Temple. It may be that the reason the Lord allowed me to be interested in this girl, was to let me learn of the goodness inside those outside the church, and to teach me how firmly I desire the highest blessings for both myself, and anyone I ever come to love. I once told Alina, if I truly believe that the only place where a marriage can be given the hope of being permanent in God's eyes is the temple, and I truly love someone, then I had best live like it, and marry there.
Not much else to say. One side of me is still irritated at being alone, the other side awaits the time when the right person will come along. :-) I also now realize that I am a nice guy, despite my weaknesses, and I feel that I am able to treat a girlfriend properly. Also I realize the frustrations involved in rushing things, as well as the problems that result in a lack of communication or connection between two people. Also the problems that exist when one side isn't as interested or committed as the other. Values are very important, as is the willingness to be supportive and uplifting, even to the point of increasing your own values if needed, but never lowering what you already have. Timing is also an issue, but only insomuch as one side or another is not willing to be patient if needed. Honestly, if you find the right person, and other factors are not in place, a 3 year dating cycle would not be a bad thing... Nothing is a bad thing as long as you put God first and keep the commandments. God has said that we should not run faster than we are able, nor should we do more than we have strength for, also that we should prepare, before going and doing... I believe the same goes for marriage, and that while having a valid temple recommend is essential to a Temple marriage, simply having one may not mean sufficient personal maturity and spiritual growth has been attained to prepare one for marriage. Neither is being a return missionary instantly grounds for such preparation either, though it may most certainly contribute to that preparation.
Anyways, that's all I have to say about that for now. :-)

Dearest Scott,
I know... I know. Another card. if only there could come a day when I had more than a few measley sentences to write to you... If only I could write letters like old times. I apologize and am working on a stack of mail, far exceeding 30 letters that are way over-due for a response. Let me tell you what I've been up to -
Work work work - planting baby Doug Fir for D.N.R. and the snow and rain does not stop us. I come home each day with BLUE LIPS! Bbbbrrrrrr!!
I am cramming my Business classes in between Chemical Dependency classes they said I have to take before I get out this fall -> (Because my crime involved alcohol.) Whatever.
I teach step aerobics every week, and free time is spent at visits 3-4 nights per week. Quilting for charity too! Whew! You are such a good friend to me and I stare at your last 6 letters from Nov - Jan feeling terrible that I haven't the time to sit down and properly answer each. It makes me think back to the days life was so much simpler before I came to Mission Creek. This place has provided too many challenges for me and I have fallen several times, unfortunately. I think that has a lot to do with not having good things to say in letters to you like old times. I know you are probably concerned because you're just a loving & kind friend like that - but I simply cannot explain in detail what I've been going through. Just know I think of you often and am grateful I had the privilege of being someone you felt you could love. To answer your last question in your last letter, (as to not leave you hanging), I do consider you an amazing friend, and once upon a time, I felt worthy of your companionship, (if there was a spark there). But now, I must work to try and get back to where I used to be. Please forgive me for not being the kind of person to you that you so generously are to me. I appreciate you more than you know. I'm sorry.
Your Friend,
Ja'Nette

Dearest Scott,
My heart is breaking because I fear I've hurt your feelings unintentionally with my brief letter. I have not been a very good pen-pal, but I pray you know you're still in my thoughts and close to my heart always.
How are you doing these days? I loved the pictures you sent me of you and your family on vacation. Perhaps those slopes have snow on them by now. I didn't know you could ride the lifts when it wasn't snow season.
I have not taken any recent pictures of myself. They are 1.00 per photo, which is incredibly expensive for someone who works for 0.63 cents an hour.
Speaking of which - work is good - I just went out to fight another fire last week and didn't get home until 11:00pm. LONG night in 25 degree weather!
My mom is in town, visiting from Colorado, which has been nice. She looks so different - and it's only been a couple months. There are talks of the family moving back here in February. We'll see, though.
Other than that, school is good, my friend are wonderful and I keep trying to keep my head up in this place. November 18th marks my 1-year countdown to freedom!
I send you all my best wishes and heartfelt prayers, friend.
Love,
Ja'Nette.

That'll make a big difference in these posts!! There are too many to go back and fix, so I'll just alter the ones I have here from now on.This is an example of Single-line Spacing

Much smoother!

I think that would be the best event all year long.
